Partner Investigation

Doubt about your partner is one of the most profound experiences a person can face. Perhaps there are small signals: different phone behaviour, unexplained absences, changed habits. Or perhaps there is already a concrete suspicion, but certainty is still missing. In both cases, the uncertainty can be paralysing. A partner investigation gives you the facts. SAJ Recherche is a [licensed investigation agency](/en/licensed-investigation-agency/) holding Ministry of Justice permit POB 8779. We carry out partner investigations in full accordance with Dutch private-investigation law (the Wpbr) and the GDPR. Our evidence holds up before the Dutch courts. Whether the outcome confirms your fear or gives you peace of mind, either way you can move forward.

What we investigate

What is a partner investigation and what is legally permitted?

A partner investigation is a professionally conducted inquiry into the behaviour and contacts of a partner, carried out by a licensed investigation agency. Under Dutch law, surveillance of individuals in public spaces is permitted, provided the investigation is proportional and serves a legitimate purpose. What is not permitted: accessing phones or email accounts without consent, illegal GPS tracking, or any form of stalking or intimidation. We assess every investigation request for lawfulness and proportionality in advance, in accordance with the GDPR and the Wpbr. This ensures that the evidence we collect is genuinely admissible.

What evidence do we collect and how does it hold up in court?

The core of our partner investigation is surveillance in public spaces: we document activities, contacts and location patterns with timestamps and photographic evidence. In addition, we conduct digital investigation via public sources, social media and OSINT. The end result is a factual report with verifiable evidence. Evidence collected by a licensed investigation agency in accordance with the GDPR and the Wpbr is legally admissible before the Dutch courts. It is relevant in divorce proceedings, alimony cases and custody arrangements. In alimony cases, evidence of cohabitation is particularly significant: under Article 1:160 of the Dutch Civil Code, the alimony obligation ends definitively when the recipient cohabits with a new partner as if married. We collaborate with family-law attorneys to align evidence with your legal strategy.

Signals that prompt a partner investigation

People contact us when they recognise a pattern of signals: changing phone behaviour (greater secrecy, different usage patterns), unexplained absences or vague explanations of time spent, financial irregularities, a sudden emotional distance, or concrete rumours from people around them. You do not need proof before contacting us. A suspicion is sufficient to start a confidential conversation. Together we assess whether an investigation is feasible and proportionate in your specific situation.

How it works, step by step

1
Confidential intake

you tell your story without judgement. We assess feasibility and give you an honest view of the approach and realistic expectations.

2
Investigation plan

together we determine the scope, the methods (surveillance, digital investigation, or a combination), the expected timeline and the costs. You receive a transparent, fixed quotation.

3
Discreet fieldwork

our investigators carry out the investigation with thorough knowledge of Amsterdam and its surroundings at street level. They change position and vehicle to minimise the risk of recognition. You receive progress updates throughout.

4
Factual report

you receive a clear, professional report with timestamped evidence, ready for your attorney or the court.

Your anonymity and our discretion are guaranteed

We understand that this is an extremely sensitive matter. Your details are treated with strict confidentiality and never shared with third parties, except where legally required. The investigated partner is not informed of your instruction. In our experience, the partner under investigation rarely notices. Payment is secure: 50 percent in advance, 50 percent on completion. Frequently asked questions

How can I have evidence of infidelity collected?
Contact SAJ Recherche by phone on +31 20 782 3222 or via the contact form. After a confidential intake we draw up an investigation plan. Our investigators carry out surveillance and, where relevant, digital investigation. You receive a factual report with legally usable evidence.
Is collecting evidence of infidelity legal in the Netherlands?
Yes, provided the investigation is proportional and carried out by a licensed investigation agency in accordance with the GDPR and the Wpbr. SAJ Recherche holds Ministry of Justice permit POB 8779. We assess every request for lawfulness and proportionality in advance.
How do you prove infidelity in a way that holds up in court?
By having the evidence collected by a licensed investigation agency. Surveillance evidence, timestamped photographic material and a professional investigation report are legally admissible before the Dutch courts, provided the investigation was conducted lawfully. Self-collected evidence (screenshots, messages) is often less convincing and can be challenged.
Can evidence of infidelity be used in a divorce or alimony case?
Yes. Evidence of cohabitation with a new partner is especially relevant in alimony cases: under Article 1:160 of the Dutch Civil Code, the alimony obligation ends definitively when the recipient cohabits with a new partner as if married. We work with family-law attorneys to align the evidence with your legal strategy.
How much does a partner investigation cost?
The cost depends on the duration and methods. Our hourly rate for fieldwork starts from 125 euros excluding VAT. After the intake you receive a transparent, fixed quotation. Payment: 50 percent in advance, 50 percent on completion. See our costs page for a full overview.
Will my partner notice the investigation?
In the vast majority of our investigations, no. Our investigators work at street level and change position and vehicle throughout. The risk of recognition is therefore minimal. We align the approach with your specific situation in advance.
How quickly can the investigation start?
In most cases within 24 to 48 hours after the intake. In urgent situations we aim for the same day.
What if the outcome is reassuring?
That is valuable information too. A negative result, no evidence of infidelity found, gives you certainty and is equally usable as documentation in legal proceedings. We always report factually, regardless of the outcome.

Based abroad, with a partner in the Netherlands?

A significant share of our partner investigations are commissioned by clients who are not in the Netherlands: people based in the US, the UK, the Gulf and beyond whose partner lives, works or travels to Amsterdam. The intake, the agreement, payment and your final report can all be handled remotely and entirely in English, so you never need to travel here yourself.

If that is your situation, see our dedicated page for international and expat clients: Infidelity investigation Amsterdam, including the Schiphol and “business trip” scenario, and a step-by-step explanation of how a remote investigation works.
