Hidden cameras in everyday objects

Pinhole cameras are built into smoke detectors, power sockets, alarm clocks, USB chargers, photo frames, lamps and decorative objects. The lens is smaller than 2 mm and captures clear footage with no visible sign. Wireless Wi-Fi spy cameras stream live footage to a smartphone, even remotely.

Listening devices and hidden microphones

GSM audio bugs and wireless microphones are hidden behind furniture, inside sockets or within interior decorations. They continuously record conversations or stream them live. Some devices lie dormant and are activated remotely via SMS or a call.

Wi-Fi and IP spy cameras

IP cameras connected to the home network or equipped with their own 4G module are particularly hard to detect. Small enough to fit inside a wall socket, they transmit footage to external servers. Using the OSCOR Green we scan the full RF spectrum from 10 kHz to 24 GHz for active transmitters: GSM bugs, Wi-Fi spy cameras, wireless microphones and 4G devices.

NLJD scan and optical inspection

The Non-Linear Junction Detector finds hidden electronics that emit no signal, including powered-off or dormant devices. Our CAM-GX5 lens detector identifies pinhole lenses smaller than 2 mm inside objects such as alarm clocks, smoke detectors and wall sockets.

A home sweep is a professional TSCM (Technical Surveillance Countermeasures) inspection in which a specialist systematically searches your property for hidden cameras, listening devices, spy microphones and Wi-Fi spy cameras. Why consumer products fall short: an RF detector purchased online detects only actively transmitting devices. Pinhole cameras recording locally to an SD card, powered-off audio bugs and passive recording devices are missed entirely. Our NLJD scan (Non-Linear Junction Detection) detects semiconductor electronics inside an object even without an active signal. Combined with the optical lens detector of the CAM-GX5, which reveals pinhole lenses smaller than 2 mm, and the OSCOR Green for broadband RF analysis, we offer a detection method that consumer products cannot replicate.

A situation we regularly encounter: a client contacts us after a long-term relationship has ended and the ex-partner had access to the property on multiple occasions to collect belongings. The client notices the ex-partner seems aware of conversations that took place only at home. We carry out a full inspection of the property, focusing specifically on smoke detectors, wall sockets, USB chargers and other objects that appeared or changed position around the time of the break-up. This type of situation also lends itself to a combined approach: home sweep plus mobile malware scan, as stalkerware on a smartphone poses an equally serious privacy risk as a hidden camera.

Legal framework: placing a hidden camera or listening device in a home without consent is a criminal offence under Dutch law (Art. 139f Sr, unlawful interception of private communications; Art. 441b Sr, hidden cameras in non-public spaces). How do you find a hidden camera in a home?
Professional detection works in three layers. First, RF spectrum analysis (OSCOR Green, 10 kHz to 24 GHz) locates all active wireless transmitters including Wi-Fi spy cameras, GSM bugs and Bluetooth devices. Second, an NLJD scan detects powered-off or passive cameras based on the semiconductors inside the device. Third, the CAM-GX5 optical lens detector makes pinhole lenses visible in objects such as alarm clocks, smoke detectors and sockets. Consumer scanners lack the NLJD layer entirely and are therefore unreliable.
What does a home sweep cost?

Is the evidence legally admissible in court?
Yes. As a licensed investigation agency with POB licence 8779 (Dutch Ministry of Justice), SAJ Recherche produces a written report that is admissible as legal evidence. The report includes photos, signal data and a description of any device found, in line with the requirements of Dutch criminal law (Art. 139f Sr, unlawful interception). A device found without proper documentation has very limited evidential value in court. We work together with Breedijk Advocaten for legal follow-up.
Will the person who placed the device know we were there?
No. We work discreetly and plan the sweep so that third parties notice nothing. We also advise you whether the device is best removed or left in place. Removal sometimes destroys evidential value; in some cases it is legally preferable to leave the device active and file a police report while it is still transmitting. We advise you on this before taking any action.
Which hiding spots are most commonly used in homes?
Based on the cases we handle, the most common hiding spots are: smoke and CO detectors (ceiling-mounted, wide field of view), USB chargers and wall sockets (powered, inconspicuous), alarm clocks and digital clocks on bedside tables, ventilation grilles and ceiling corners, mirrors and picture frames, TV cabinets and bookshelves with a clear line of sight, and bathroom fittings such as towel holders or toiletry dispensers.
Can you inspect a bathroom or bedroom?
Yes. We inspect all rooms on request, including bedrooms and bathrooms. These are precisely the highest-risk spaces in privacy violations. Our specialist works with full discretion and you are of course present yourself or have a trusted third party as a witness. All findings are treated confidentially.
What happens if nothing is found?
You receive a written clean sweep report confirming that the specified rooms were inspected and no surveillance equipment was found. This report can also be valuable in legal proceedings to demonstrate that the situation was professionally investigated.
Can you detect Wi-Fi cameras that are not transmitting?
Wi-Fi cameras that record locally without streaming emit no recognisable RF signal at that moment. Our NLJD detects the semiconductors (transistors, chips) inside the device even without an active signal. The combination of NLJD, optical lens detection and physical inspection covers passively recording devices as well.
