Threats

What we detect in your office

Hidden microphones

GSM audio bugs and concealed microphones are placed inside smoke detectors, USB chargers, wall sockets, projectors, desk phones and decorative items. Active transmitters stream continuously via the GSM network; passive recording chips store audio locally without emitting any signal.

Hidden cameras

Miniature cameras concealed in ventilation grilles, clocks, pen holders or light fittings capture meetings and confidential conversations. Detectable via lens detection (IR reflection) and RF scanning. Particularly high risk in executive offices and boardrooms.

Network taps & keyloggers

Hardware keyloggers on USB or PS/2 ports and network taps on ethernet patch points intercept keystrokes and network traffic entirely passively, without emitting any RF signal. Only physical inspection of all connection points brings these to light.

GSM and 4G/5G bugs

Devices that stream via the mobile network appear in the RF spectrum like a standard phone. Without specialised GSM analysis equipment, these transmitters are virtually undetectable. SAJ Recherche scans all common frequency bands including 4G and 5G.

Our process

From request to report in 4 steps

01

Intake & threat assessment

Call or email us. We discuss your situation confidentially: the reason for concern, the type of space and the risk profile. We tailor equipment and protocol accordingly. Scheduling is typically within 24-48 hours.

02

Visual inspection

Our TSCM specialist searches all areas systematically: wall sockets, wall plates, smoke detectors, light fittings, projectors, desk phones, furniture and cavities. Hidden cameras are detected via lens detection (IR reflection).

03

RF scan & NLJD analysis (~2-4 hours per room)

Broadband spectrum analysis with the OSCOR Green (10 kHz to 24 GHz) detects active transmitters. The Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD) locates passive and powered-off devices that produce no signal at all. Followed by GSM and network analysis for anomalous devices.

04

Report & advice

You receive a detailed written report with all findings, photographs of any devices, frequency data and recommendations. If devices are found, we advise on next steps: removal, police report (Article 139f Dutch Penal Code) and legal evidence in cooperation with Breedijk Advocaten.

Office bug sweep, Amsterdam region

Office bug sweep in Amsterdam, Zuidas and Randstad

An office bug sweep is a professional TSCM inspection in which your office space, meeting room, executive suite or boardroom is systematically searched for listening devices, hidden cameras, network taps and other unwanted surveillance equipment. SAJ Recherche carries out office bug sweeps in Amsterdam including the Zuidas, Schiphol corridor, Amstelveen, Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam, Haarlem and the surrounding municipalities.

A situation we encounter regularly: a business owner or director suspects that commercially sensitive information is leaking. A competitor undercuts their tenders with knowledge that was only discussed internally. After a confidential intake call, we carry out a full sweep of the meeting room and executive office outside business hours. We inspect smoke detectors, wall sockets, light fittings, projectors, desk phones, ethernet patch points and all concealed cavities in furniture and wall finishes.

Why engage a licensed investigation agency? A consumer detector from a webshop only detects active, transmitting equipment. Passive recording devices, hardware keyloggers and network taps produce no RF signal at all and are therefore completely missed. As a licensed investigation agency (POB 8779, Ministry of Justice), SAJ Recherche also produces a written report that is admissible as legal evidence in police reports (Article 139f Dutch Penal Code) and civil proceedings.

Coverage: we carry out office sweeps in Amsterdam (all districts including Zuidas and Centre), Amstelveen, Schiphol corridor, Haarlem, Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam. For urgent requests we aim to deploy within 24 hours. Inspections are preferably scheduled outside office hours for discretion and to minimise RF noise from active devices.

Office sweep checklist: what we inspect

  • Smoke detectors, ventilation grilles and ceiling panels (hidden microphones and cameras)
  • Wall sockets, USB chargers and extension leads (integrated bugs)
  • Light fittings, projectors and screens (lens detection via IR reflection)
  • Desk phones, VOIP devices and conference systems
  • Ethernet patch points and network cabinets for hardware taps
  • USB and PS/2 connections for keyloggers
  • Furniture, plants and decorative items (common hiding places)
  • RF spectrum 10 kHz to 24 GHz (active GSM, 4G/5G and Wi-Fi transmitters)
  • NLJD scan for passive and powered-off electronics
  • Network analysis: unauthorised Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IP cameras

Frequently asked questions about office bug sweeps

What is an office bug sweep and when do I need one?
An office bug sweep is a professional TSCM inspection (Technical Surveillance Countermeasures) in which your office, meeting room, executive suite or boardroom is searched for listening devices, hidden cameras, network taps and other surveillance equipment. You need an office sweep when you suspect an information leak, when a competitor unexpectedly knows your strategy, after a dispute with a business partner, or as a preventive measure before sensitive discussions.
What devices do you detect during an office sweep?
We detect hidden microphones (active via GSM/RF and passive on memory card), hidden cameras, network taps on ethernet connections, hardware keyloggers on USB or PS/2 ports, GSM and 4G/5G audio bugs, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth transmitters, and passive devices with no signal output via our Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD). We use military-grade equipment from REI (OSCOR Green, NLJD) and JJN Digital (CAM-GX5).
How long does an office sweep take?
A single office or meeting room is typically thoroughly checked within 2 to 4 hours. A multi-room inspection or a full floor takes half a day to a full day. We align the schedule to your situation and are available outside office hours for maximum discretion.
Can you work outside normal office hours?
Yes. We preferably carry out office sweeps outside business hours, in the evening or at weekends. This ensures discretion from staff, reduces RF noise from active devices and prevents a potential placer from receiving a warning because their device was temporarily inactive.
What does an office bug sweep cost?
TSCM inspections are priced based on the number of rooms and floor area. See our pricing page for starting rates or call +31 20 782 3222 for a no-obligation quote tailored to your situation.
Is an office sweep legal?
Yes. Having your own office, meeting room or boardroom checked for unwanted surveillance equipment is perfectly legal. As owner or management of the premises, you have the right to commission a TSCM inspection. SAJ Recherche is licensed by the Dutch Ministry of Justice (POB 8779, valid until 2030).
Is the report admissible as legal evidence?
Yes. As a licensed investigation agency (POB 8779), SAJ Recherche produces a written report that is admissible as legal evidence. Any devices found are documented with photographs, location and frequency data. This report supports a police report under Article 139f of the Dutch Penal Code (covert eavesdropping) and can be used in civil proceedings. We work with Breedijk Advocaten for legal follow-up.
Do you detect passive devices that emit no signal?
Yes. Passive recording equipment that produces no RF signal at all is the hardest category to detect. Our Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLJD) from REI detects hidden electronics via the semiconductor junctions in chips and transistors, even when the device is fully powered off or recording to a memory card. This is a critical component of every professional office sweep.
Can you also inspect the network and telephone system?
Yes. In addition to the physical and RF inspection, we analyse the local network (Wi-Fi and ethernet) for unauthorised devices, anomalous connections and hardware taps on patch points. Desk phones and VOIP systems are included in the inspection for unauthorised recording devices or taps.
Do you carry out office sweeps at the Zuidas and near Schiphol?
Yes. We operate throughout the Amsterdam region including the Zuidas, Schiphol corridor, Amstelveen and the wider Randstad (Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam, Haarlem). On and around the Zuidas we regularly work for law firms, consultancies and companies with competitively sensitive R&D. Call +31 20 782 3222 for immediate availability.
Do you combine an office sweep with a vehicle or phone inspection?
Yes. We offer combined TSCM packages: office plus vehicle, office plus phone, or a complete security audit of premises, vehicle and mobile devices. Combined packages come at a preferential rate. See our pricing page or call for a tailored quote.
