Employee theft? We deliver the evidence.

Internal theft costs Dutch businesses over one billion euros annually. The average case runs for months before it is detected — and without professional evidence, you risk a wrongful dismissal claim as an employer (Dutch Civil Code art. 7:678). SAJ Recherche has proven experience with workplace theft investigation. In a recent case in Maastricht, we uncovered EUR 78,000 in structural theft that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. We investigate discreetly, deliver legally sound evidence and guide you through dismissal or filing a police report.

What we investigate

Stock & cash register analysis

Systematic analysis of inventory movements, cash register records and depreciation patterns to establish the scale and pattern of theft. We compare administrative data with physical counts to pinpoint exactly where the losses occur.

Covert surveillance

WPBR-compliant observation in the workplace without the suspect's knowledge. We document behaviour, actions and relevant moments. Our surveillance operatives are experienced and work within the strict Dutch privacy legislation framework.

Digital forensic investigation

Analysis of log files, access logs, CCTV footage, email and business systems to uncover digital traces of theft or embezzlement. We use forensic methods that guarantee the integrity of all evidence collected.

OSINT investigation

We trace whether stolen goods, materials or business information are being offered or resold elsewhere — on Marktplaats, social media, through competitors or intermediaries. This often delivers the decisive evidence.

Evidence dossier for dismissal

A legally substantiated report that meets the requirements of Dutch Civil Code art. 7:678 (urgent cause) for summary dismissal. The dossier contains a chronological evidence overview and is directly admissible at the sub-district court, UWV and police.

Police report support

We guide you through filing a police report and substantiate the criminal complaint with our evidence. On request, we advise on the possibilities for a civil damage claim and recovery from the perpetrator.

Confidential intake

Discuss the warning signs with us in a no-obligation, free initial consultation. We assess proportionality (GDPR), evaluate the situation and draw up an investigation plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have an employee investigated without their knowledge?
Yes, provided there is a reasonable suspicion of theft and the investigation is proportional. The GDPR requires a legitimate interest on the part of the employer. We assess this during the intake and advise you on the legal framework before the investigation starts.
Is the evidence dossier admissible for summary dismissal?
Yes. Our report is specifically drafted to meet the requirements of Dutch Civil Code art. 7:678 (urgent cause). It contains a chronological evidence overview with substantiation and is directly admissible at the sub-district court, UWV and police.
What if multiple employees are involved?
We investigate group patterns and can expand the investigation to cover multiple suspects. For more complex cases involving multiple individuals, we recommend the Complete package, which provides scope for a broader investigation.
How do you prevent the investigation from leaking?
Strict protocols: only the client and lead investigator know the case details. No written communication is sent to company addresses. We use secure channels and report exclusively to you personally.
How quickly can you start?
In urgent situations — such as catching someone in the act or the threat of evidence destruction — we start within 24 hours. Regular cases typically begin within 48 hours of the intake. Speed is crucial because evidence can disappear.
What does a workplace theft investigation cost?
From EUR 695 for a Quick Scan (pattern analysis and risk assessment) to EUR 2,495 for a full investigation with police report support. After the intake, you receive a clear quotation with no surprises. All prices exclude VAT.
Can I recover the investigation costs from the perpetrator?
In many cases, yes. Investigation costs can be claimed as damages in civil proceedings against the perpetrator. Our detailed report serves as substantiation of the losses incurred. We advise you on the recovery options available.
